Abstract: Article devoted to studying the problem of self-knowledge of the human spirit in mythology. Author on the examples of Greek, Slavic, North African, etc. mythological sources in detail the evolutionary path of self-knowledge from human to animism and fetishism of the heroic myth and highlights the value of words in the development of human consciousness.
