Abstract: Model of land management in the Ruhr area (Germany) is examined. Notions of sustainability, land, sustainable land management were analysed from ecological, economic and social points of view. Stakeholder approach is proposed for land management. Impact of growth and urban transition on the demand of land resources is illustrated.
