Abstract: The article provides information about the experience of using utilized dump truck tyre casings for shielding of the most unsafe areas of technological road of the “Kaltansky” open-pit mine, for the total length of 12km. On the basis of the authors’ calculations the tyres should be placed at a depth of 2/3 of the tyre casing’s diameter. Placing of 3 tyres in groups with a 6-9 meter interval between groups made it easier to clear the snow from the roads. The application of light-reflecting paint on the side part of the tyre created good conditions for traffic in the dusk. For these reasons the use of heavy-duty dump truck tyre casings to shield the roads can be recommended for broad implementation on the open-pit mines of the country.
