Abstract: Global production and consumption of silicon carbide was rated. The expediency of using tehnogeneous silica fume for producing of silicon carbide by methods of furnace synthesis and plasmametallurgical technology is shown. Schemes of mechanisms of carbothermal synthesis and plazmometallurgical silicon carbide are proposed.
