Abstract: During coal mining the methane is extracted to the surface via degassing, ventilation and bleeder systems. Methane is a greenhouse gas and at the same time is suitable for beneficial use. The article presents estimates of volumes of methane emissions that accompany underground coal mining, the concentration of methane in the methane-air mixture depending on the types of emission sources. The article describes the major aspects and possible ways of utilization of coal mine methane for the purposes of producing the useful products, heat and electric energy, a motor fuel usage.
