Abstract: the Hypothesis of formation of self-heating of coal is advanced due to the fact that as currently proposed to assess endogenous Pozarevac-surface mining and various fields of mathematical models and methods predict all not-always acceptable to solve practical problems of the prevention of endogenous fires. Test of hypothesis carried out by conducting complex studies, as a result of which the criteria and the dimensionless coefficients that provide the most powerful influence on the formation and development of foci of self-heating.
