Abstract: The article discusses the problem of competitive positioning the economy in Kemerovo region at present stage of development. Need to innovative transformation of its basic coal industry as a source of growth in the region's competitive advantages is shown by the authors. The scenarios of innovative development in Kuzbass coal industry are formed for the long term.
