Abstract: In the article a long way of development of the human mind – from the appearance of the first written signs, marking periods of time, before the emergence of primitive writing, transmitting some directional information. The periods marked by the appearance of the first educational institutions, the invention of the alphabet and the beginning of the first printing. Special attention is paid to the inventor of the printing press by John Gutenberg, who constructed the first printing press and printed the so-called 42–line Bible – the first full printed edition in Europe and is recognized as a masterpiece of early printing.
