Abstract: In the course of combustion of alcohol components of biofuel the hydroxyl- and carbonyl-containing compounds polluting environment are formed. Research of ways of formation of these products is necessary for development of the measures reducing emissions. The purpose of this work was studying of structure and ways of formation of products of liquid-phase oxidation of one of biofuel components – a 2-butanol. The method of a gas-liquid chromatography has studied structure of products of the liquid-phase oxidation of a 2-butanol initiated by an (Z)-2,2'-(diazene-1,2-diyl)bis(2-methylpropanenitrile) in case of 60 C. As a part of products are identified and quantitatively determined: 2 butanone, 1,2-butandiol, 2,3 (R, R and/or S, S) - butandiol, 2,3-butandiol (meso), 1,3-butandiol. The hydroxyl functional group significantly activates α-CH-bond, deactivates β- and -CH-bond of a molecule of alcohol in reaction with peroxy radicals.
