Abstract: The article considers regulatory requirements for modeling and determining of the volumes of open coal storage facilities. Experimental data are presented on the creation and calculation of the geometric characteristics of the surface of a coal quarry storage created by the results of an aerial survey using an un-manned aerial system Geoscan 101. When the digital model of the relief of the storage was verified with the data of the surveying plan of the mine workings, the difference in the double measurements of the coordinates of the control points was 0.18 m in plan and 0.26 m in height. It was established that the error in the volume of the coal storage calculated by dividing it into volume fragments with a base step equal to the linear size of one pixel of the model is 2.5% and it differs from the measurements cut by the method of vertical parallel cross sections according to the results of surveying ground surveys by 4.6%.
