Abstract: The evolution of the “quality” definition, governing the models and methods of product quality control, is presented. It is shown how quality of coal influences the economy of a mine and coal consumers—facilities of power engineering and coke chemistry. The concept of economics of product quality is set forth. The ecological consequences due to the low quality of coal in use and production are discussed. Finally, the authors offer the functional model of the environment management system.
Key words: Quality competitive ability total quality management quality cost environment ecological aspects of quality
