Abstract: If we try to analyze the existing results of theoretical and practical studies concerning dewatering of processed mineral resources, we can note the special attention paid to the usage of synthetic polymeric flocculants to enhance the efficiency of the liquid and solid phases separation. Lately the attention to all the factors influencing the efficiency of the flocculant usage in dewatering processes at the coal preparation plants is continuing to grow due to the increasing demand in flocculants. The efficiency of the flocculant usage depends greatly on the season, chemical composition of water, grain-size distribution, fractional and quality composition of coal sludge, hence the need in research of the consistent patterns during the flocculation process is extremely high. The authors’ goal was the development of scientifically justified methods to control the flocculation processes. The authors have conducted a series of laboratory and industrial tests to support the proposed methods. The results have shown that, by taking into account the correlation between the flocculant properties and the properties of processed coal slurry, it is possible to improve the process efficiency.
