Abstract: The article is devoted to the history of the development of the Institute "Sibniyugleobogaschenie". The institute was founded on the basis of the coal quality and processing department of the Kuznetsk Coal Institute. Having passed the difficult post-war period, the institute came to the flourishing of scientific activity in 70-80 years. The heyday was replaced by perestroika. Having survived the time of perestroika, the institute became part of the Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK), after which it actively began to expand its scope of activities. Today "Sibniyugleobogaschenie" is the only research institute from the Urals to the Far East, which comprehensively solves the issues of coal preparation, design of concentrating plants, installations, mines and open-pit mines.
