Abstract: The article provides basic information of the grade composition of fossil coals. In the article a brief description of the Russian classification of fossil coals is given, the detection principles the grade composition are reflected, and the main factors influencing on the disconfirmation of the grade composition during the development of coal deposits are considered. A complex of negative factors is associated with the peculiarities of geological exploration in the pre-operational stage: the degree of exploration of the field, the confidence of calculation the average values of the classification indicators based on the sampling data, the storage times of samples in laboratories, the correctness of establishing the property lines with different grade composition and drilling in difficult geological conditions. In the article are given some recommendations for eliminating the influence of negative factors in the course of pre-mining grade control drilling.
