Abstract: A mining enterprise (a mine), in accordance with design solutions and with the aim of maintaining or increasing production capacity as well as maximizing the extraction of mineral resources within the mining lease, undergoes several stages of reconstruction throughout its life cycle. This approach requires less financial and labor investment compared to the construction of new facilities. The deepening of vertical shafts is a crucial stage in the reconstruction of mining enterprises, as only after the completion of such works does it become possible to carry out mine development operations at the next level, aimed at preparing new reserves – often richer in valuable components – for stoping. During shaft deepening under conditions of ongoing operational hoisting, protective devices must be installed to shield workers in the deepened part of the shaft from potential falling of hoisting vessels or their contents. These devices must be capable of withstanding significant impact loads, be structurally robust, simple in design, and require minimal labor for installation and subsequent dismantling. The design of wedge-type protective platforms depends on the properties of the ore transported in skips. The purpose of this study is to determine the parameter values of a magnetite ore model for discrete element method (DEM) simulation of emergency ore spillage from the 1СN-20 shaft skip. The study includes an analysis of the physical and mechanical characteristics of magnetite ore from the Sheregesh iron ore deposit (Sheregeshskaya Mine, EVRAZ-ZSMK JSC). Parameters necessary for building an accurate DEM model are identified. The paper presents the results of determining the static friction coefficient for the "particle – particle" pair, the friction coefficient for the "particle – boundary" pair, and the restitution coefficient. Validation of the obtained data has been conducted.
