Abstract: In opencast mining, the processes of transporting rock mass by dump trucks take up 43-82% of the total duration of a dump truck trip. Therefore, when simulating the operation of excavator-dump truck complexes (EDC), the duration of the movement of dump trucks along the route sections has a significant impact on the operational performance of the EAC obtained as a result of computational experiments. The duration is determined based on the speed of the dump trucks. The article considers two methods for determining the speed - a graphical method based on the use of dynamic traction characteristics of dump trucks, and an analytical method using a well-known formula. A comparison of these methods was made and the average deviation of the speed values of BelAZ dump trucks with a carrying capacity of 90-360 tons was determined. In this case, the values obtained on the basis of traction characteristics from dump trucks' passports are taken as a standard. A functional relationship between the speed of movement of dump trucks of different carrying capacity, determined graphically, and the speed calculated analytically is determined. Approximation of functions is performed. Based on this, a refined formula for determining the speed of movement of BelAZ dump trucks is obtained, using which the deviation of the values of the technical speed of movement of dump trucks, determined by graphical and analytical methods, is determined. It is revealed that the use of the refined formula allows to reduce the deviation of the values of the technical speed of movement of BelAZ dump trucks from the values obtained by the graphical method, compared with the use of the known analytical formula. Also, based on the results of computational experiments when modeling the operation of the EAC in the conditions of one of the open pits of the Kedrovsko-Krokhalevsky deposit, it is shown that the use of the obtained refined dependence allows to increase the accuracy of determining the operational performance of the EAC.
