Abstract: Complex-shaped products made of hard alloys are widely used in modern mechanical engineering. One of the methods for processing such products, which provides high productivity while ensuring high dimensional accuracy of the complex profile and achieving the desired surface quality, is deep grinding with profile diamond wheels. The deep grinding process is accompanied by increased temperatures in the processing area, which can lead to defects such as burns and microcracks. The main factor affecting heat generation in the grinding zone is the cutting force. The theory of sliding lines is used to calculate the cutting force. An analytical formula has been developed to calculate the thickness of a single grain cut. A method has been proposed for determining the contact area between a profiled grinding wheel and a workpiece based on the discretization of the profile. The relationship between cutting modes and the cutting force has been established. The thickness of a single grain cut layer and the cutting forces during diamond grinding have been plotted as a function of the technological modes. The thickness of the layer cut by a single grain and the cutting forces for the recommended processing modes of a solid-carbide end mill are calculated. The proposed method allows for the calculation of cutting forces for deep diamond grinding, taking into account the geometry and number of cutting grains, the physical and mechanical properties of the material being ground, and the parameters and modes of cutting. This is a prerequisite for calculating temperatures or heat flux density. Based on the results obtained, it is possible to develop a control system for deep grinding with profile diamond wheels, where the grinding modes will serve as the control factors.
