Abstract: The article presents the results of a research study aimed at developing new resource-efficient electrochemical systems using carbon materials of regional origin. The main objective of the research was to investigate the possibility of creating a functional electrochemical cell based on solid hydrocarbons from Kuzbass, which is of significant scientific and practical interest for the region. Various grades of bituminous coals sampled from deposits in the Kemerovo region were studied as the active electrode material. The selection criteria were a high degree of coalification and optimally low ash content, which is important for ensuring good electrochemical characteristics. The experimental part of the work included the stage of preparing coal electrodes by the pressing method using a binder component, as well as a comprehensive study of their key properties: electrical conductivity and electrochemical activity. As part of the research, a design for a laboratory electrochemical cell using the created coal electrodes was developed and assembled. Conducted tests demonstrated its functionality: the cell is capable of generating a current density of up to 2 mA/cm² at an open-circuit voltage of about 0.5 V. Testing in various electrolyte media confirmed the fundamental possibility of using this device as a simple chemical current source. The obtained results indicate the feasibility of creating electrochemical devices based on the accessible hydrocarbon raw materials of the Kemerovo region. As directions for further research, the authors identify the optimization of the electrode composition and structure (including the selection of a binder), the search for a more effective electrolyte composition, as well as work on increasing the specific energy density of the cell for potential practical application
