Abstract: The electrode pitch is necessary to obtain high-quality electrode products. In turn, obtaining high-quality electrode products depends on the properties of the resulting electrode pitch, its preparation for use, and the properties of the feedstock for the pitch. Application of coal tar (a product of high-temperature coking of coal) for the production of electrode pitches, compared with other types of hydrocarbon raw materials, it provides a better pitch quality and a higher yield. When producing electrode pitches from coal tar from coking coal, the most significant aspects and influencing the formation of a high-quality pitch are: 1) the quality of coal tar (respectively, the quality of coals going to coking, coking technology, physical wear of coal coking furnaces and related equipment and pipelines); 2) temperature and period of thermal effect on coal resin; 3) composition of the gas medium in the reactor; 4) pressure in the reactor. The possibility of obtaining laboratory samples of electrode pitches from coal tar of «Кoks» has been studied and established. The qualitative characteristics of the pitches were determined, the data obtained were analyzed, and the characteristics of the obtained electrode pitches were matched with the required values of quality indicators. It was found that the obtained laboratory samples of coal pitch were obtained by vacuum distillation under the process parameters: vacuum – 0.016 ; maximum heating temperature – 400C; the heating rate is 5°C/min, they have a low softening temperature of 55.8°C, and with further processing of the obtained pitch samples with low–temperature oxygen plasma, it is possible to obtain coal pitches with a softening temperature from 87 to 90°C.
