Abstract: Article is devoted to the characteristic of one of basic categories of archaeology – archaeological culture in the 1930-1970th years. The author designated the main directions in understanding by scientists of this category, criteria of allocation of the archaeological cultures, used by scientists during the specified period are defined, archaeological cultures are characterized.
